What gauge wire was used in various places on a 1955 CA? Thanks in advance for any information.

If someone has the gauge of wire used originally on the Allis Chalmers CA or a source, I would appreciate you posting it here or a link. Thanks in advance for your help. I had checked the Operator Manual prior to posting but it doesn't show the gauge of wire used, unless I missed it. The wiring on the tractor now isn't original and has mixed gauges.

AC put the wiring diagram in the operator manual. The various gauges may also be indicated. If the wires are still on the tractor, they can by judged with a crimping/stripping terminal pliers.

I have absolutely no idea nor specs or diagrams of what was originally used HOWEVER I can tell you what I would use if I was completely re wiring her individualy having no pre made wiring harness. NOTE this may be over engineered in a few places and may be bigger then absolutely necessary buttttt ttt the bigger the wire the stronger n heavier it is and less voltage drop (albeit negligible) especially when n where critical like for the ignition circuit on a colddddd ddddd morning. Even if 12 gauge is overkill and might only save a millivolt in voltage drop versus say 14 gauge which may have been factory original, its just how I would do it (as a conservative),,,,, , you can do as you darn well please lol

I would use 12 gauge:

Charging Circuit; Gennys ARM post to GEN/ARM terminal on a Voltage Regulator or Cutout Relay,,,,, ,,From BAT terminal on VR or Cutout Relay to load side of ammeter,,,,, ,from supply side of ammeter to battery/starter. This assumes a typical generator, if an alternator Id use 10 Gauge here.

I would use 12 Gauge:

Ignition Circuit; Assuming its NOT a Magneto; From load side of ammeter to BAT input terminal on Ignition switch,,,,, ,from IGN output of Ignition Switch to Coil (or ballast if used),, From Coil to Distributor.

I would use 00 Gauge Battery n Starter n Ground cables if its a 6 volt system and 0 if 12 volt

I would use 14 gauge for the rest of the general and light wiring UNLESS there are several lights on one circuit, in which case hey, what the heck, bump it up to 12 gauge.

Finally, although 12 and 14 (or even 16) gauge will suffice for most general purpose genny field control and lighting circuits and ignition, if you only had one roll of wire to choose from it wont hurt to use 12 everywhere, 14 gauge second choice (probaly a lot of original was 14 or even a lil 16 thrown in???)

OF COURSE Use stranded wire for better flexibility and vibration and bending.
