I am intersted in getting my 1957 WD45 redone this winter by a professional mechanic. Want the motor completely rebuilt and new gaskets and stuff on the final drives. Wonder what this will cost? What do I need to make the motor like new? New sleeves, etc.? It's been known to get hung in gear. Is there a way to fix that? I'm not experienced when it comes to major overhauls so any advice is appreciated. Thank you. Have a nice day.

I had my WD engine overhauled last year by a good mechanic. Cost me $1500, could have been closer to $1000 if less was wrong. Get the full rebuild kit with sleeves, pistons, bearings, etc, and have the head rebuilt. The rest could be pretty expensive, just to stop a little seepage and an occasional trans hangup. I have that on my other WD with the "WD-45 tranny", I first learned how to get it unstuck quickly, and then learned how to shift it so it wouldn't hang up.
