Dave - I had this problem myself on my D17 Series IV. TexasAllis right in having you check the stop bolt first to make sure it is letting the lever go all the way forward. However, shimming the PD clutch pack is to tighten it up if you are having slippage problems. If you are not having slippage problems then tighening it up will make the pop out problem WORSE.

The problem is inside on the PD unit with the 3 sets of feed ramps and the rollers used to engage/disengage the clutch. The feed ramps get worn and the little rollers get flat spots and don't allow it to "snap over" to stay engaged. You'll have to split the tractor between the torque tube and transmission to remove the PD unit to repair this. The rollers are available from AGCO still, about $15 each. Be sure to get the little C clips that hold them in too. If the feed ramps on the PD housing are worn bad enough you'll have to get a machine shop to build it back up and machine it back to normal. Good luck! Mike

Dave,

You can try adjusting the bolt at the bottom of the high/low shifter if there is any adjustment left. That will let the shifter snap over further. If that does not work you will need to shim the clutch pack. You will have to split the tractor to do that. A good manual will explain how to shim the clutch.
