well i tore into the 45 last night the rocker arm assembly had 2 broken shaft supports pulled head off no 3 piston is pitted and so are the valves on no 3 but the piston seems tight the cylinder seems in good condition just a little ring ridge so i am gonna clean it up and fix the rocker arm put it back togather and see what i have maybe i am lucky this time i will know in a couple days thanks for the reply,s David

Heres how I deal with that type of problem. Fill all the cylinders with tranny fluid. Then walk away from it for a day or 2. Pull all the plugs out and spin it over to clear out the tranny fluid. Start it up and run it and if you can work it hard for an hour or so. If it then clears up it was a stuck ring or valve if it doesn't then it time to open it up and rebuild it

Could be rins or valve seals? I'd run a compression test on it to see. Check it dry first then put a tablespoon of oil in the second time and see if the compression comes up,if it does it's rings. I would also check it against the other cyls.

aint no valve seals on a 226 engine could be worn guides or rings but not valve seals
