I was wondering if there is someone in the Hills Iowa area that would help me with my D17 brakes.

I don't know that I can stomach the 500 the dealer wants to do it. I have a nice shop with heat, and we will eat well while were working...

I did the clutch last spring, but don't know anything about removing the rear end...

Would love to work (learn) with someone who has done it before...

Also curious what kind of time this procedure takes (both sides).

2nd option would be take it to someone other than the dealer in the area. Suggestions?

Thanks!

It's a series III.

The left brake has never worked since I have owned it. The return spring is broke and it rides at the floor board. The right brake worked up until this fall, but now locks up solid if used as all. Quite scary and I'm afraid an axle is going to snap or something.

The job depends on which series your D17 is. I think the Series I had just brake bands, like the WD, etc. By Series III they were band and disc- with the balls. More involved to work on them- you need to pull the finals. Cherry picker or hoist is needed.

Hi, If you are just changing the shoes nothing really has to come apart. Simple job. Get a service manual. The final drives will have to come off only if you are changing the drums.
