I am looking for any and all information I can get on restoring my Grandfather's tractor. This project means alot to me since he is longer alive and I rescued the tractor from the field and it was not running. I now have it running but want to do a full restoration! I have ordered some parts from here but need brake parts and other parts that I cannot find on the web site. As much information as anyone has I will take. I have never tried this before so pictures to identify things are even better! Thanks, Brendon Childers

Brendon, The suggestions you have received are good ones. Get a Parts & service manual first, you can find them on e-bay or buy them from YDT in the parts & manual section. I know I have used this service & I found it first rate. When you know what parts you need you can usually find them in the want adds here or on ebay, or even NAPA or other parts houses. There are a couple of people up in Washington that seem to know these tractors inside out, maybe one of them will read this & respond. Good Luck & enjoy, I know I have a couple of them & a newly arrived 1940 V. Chuck

Brendon-Brake disks can be had at CaseIH (CIH)Check your transdifferential 80-90wt right away and fill. You may discover your brake shaft and axle seals are leaky, no use of replacing brake linings with leaking seals. Seals also available at CIH. I believe a manual is on line at imageevent.com/skipjack/tractorinfo/tractors. Grandpa would/will be proud. gobble :o)

Hey Brendon, sorry you are doing the resto in memory of your grandad, but that is a very cool thing to do and your grandad would be proud. As far as tips or info goes, you will hear this a lot, but first get a good manual with pictures and descriptions. I personally have the one offered through this site and it is pretty good. Second I would evaluate where I am at with the tractor or what does it need. Start with the internals and work out, what I mean is new paint looks nice but new paint does not make it run good or make accesories function properly. Make sure the engine and drive components are in good shape then look at the exterior. Post your questions here, there is a lot of knowledge on this board and everyone is willing to help. I to am in the process of restoring a 49 vac and am hoping to get it all finished by the fall. Good luck. Case

Thanks for the advice. The tractor runs like a champ. I just had the carb. rebuilt to get it running properly. Brakes and electrical work is next on the list. I cannot find brake parts on here, I also need a distributor cap as well. Are they on here and I just can't see them or should I go somewhere else? Does Case have a web site specific to their product? Brendon

You won't find any supplier with brake parts I wouldn't think. You had best remove those brakes (which is a job in itself) and pull everything apart and then get the discs relined at a real brake shop, it won't be cheap. You might just get by with cleaning the old ones up. The first V series tractor came out in January of 1940 and it was a VC like yours. I think the earliest ones had the band-type brake but in August of 1940, they went to the "Lambert" brake system which is what yours has I think, sort of a sandwiched disc in the axle housing? Email me at mike46@icrossroads.com and I will mail you off a portion of a Case history book that covers the V series (which included your VC rowcrop, the industrial VI and the orchard VO).
