1030 crankshaft vs. 1370 crankshaft

Investigating a build-up of a 1030 engine with 70 series parts...504 sleeves, pistons, rods and heads. Are the 504 (1370) rods and pistons (after boring the block for the sleeve change)compatible with the 1030 crankshaft and block? (Stroke and journal sizes the same) Saw some past links to a 451cu build-up with 70 series parts, but no reference to a 504ci build-up in the 30 series. Can this be done with standard Case parts?

Sorry, but the 70 series pistons are NOT power cell pistons. The power cell pistons are flat on top. The 70 series direct injection pistons are dished. If you use the 70 series pistons in a bored out 1030 block, then you need to use the 70 series heads. Another problem! The 70 series heads have an extra bolt to hold the heads to the block. You're just better off using the 504 block. It will save you money and some big headaches.

The 2090 and 2290 crankshaft take the same bearings as the 1030. The 1030 block could be bored to take 2290 sleeves and pistons. Use the 2290 rods every thing should work. I have not done this so I don"t know for sure if it will work. I do not know of any reason why it wont. I just put 2390 motor in a 930. Have only pulled it at one pull. Lets just say I need some more tuneup before I do any crowing. Stan

What does the top of the 2290 pistons look like? Are they flat or do they dish for the direct injection? I would like to put 2290 pistons in my 930 but want to keep the stock LOOKING heads on it for looks.

While I'm not overly familiar with the 70 series, I do know that the crank journals are larger in the 504 blocks (exception 2090). The recesses that hold the sleeve/flanges are larger too. The 504 block will bolt into a 1030. The original 1030 451 power cell block has too many weaknesses when compared to a 504. Often, the 1030 block will develop cracks between stud holes and have cracks in the sleeve recess areas. You are well advsed to install the much more durable 504 block in your 1030.
