I am looking for either a good head or all 8 valve guides & springs for my DC. Dealer & local parts house's have neither avalable for the DC. The head's valve, guides, springs & seats are all shot & I can get all but the guides & springs local. Any tricks or tips on finding what I need to get this tractor going again would be great. Any parts close to norther lower Michigan would be even better. Thank you! Randy

Randy,

I have a complete DC motor on a skid out back, I have never taken the head off, but it might be just fine. I"m in Big Rapids and travel to Traverse City all the time for work if your interested. Let me know. Joe

Mike is there any advantages or disadvantages to using this head? Is it in good usable condition & how much? Thanks Randy

Higher compression so it makes better power (should be more efficient on fuel, I would think). I hear pullers like the lp heads.

I have a '51 DI with a loader and I'm looking to go through it, put in bigger pistons and see about an LP head, if I can find one.

The DI had dead engine on it when I got it and I got a 1940 DC engine and put in on there. This is a smaller displacement engine and I wish I had a little more horsepower when I start leaning into it. Of course, the engine isn't in great shape and it still does pretty well, but more horsepower wouldn't be unwelcome. :)

So if you're not interested in the LP head, it's something I have interest. Location and price will drive it too.

Contact Don Livingston @ Austin, MN. He probably knows where to get some, if he doesn't have any. 507-433-0073, AM best. Also I think his e-mail is manifold@smig.net. Good guy to deal with. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

For what it is worth. I prefer to use a plan 5576 head with pistons that come above the deck of the block then to use an LP head. This gives you the same compression, but much better air flow as the 6135 heads restrict the air flow way too much with their design. I am running a 5576 head with tall top pistons and have 185lbs of compression. This head also allows you to insert oversized valves if you desire. This makes for a much better fuel mixture in my opinion. Just my .02 cents....
