Hi Gentlemen, we recently bought a 1969 case 930 CK. The farmer we bought it from stated it needed a new clutch. We are going to split the tractor soon, but was hoping to get some advise first. The clutch has absolutely no tension in it until the last two inches of travel. The clutch will not disengage when the tractor is started in gear. The clutch doesn't appear to slip while driving it either thus leading me to believe it may be the pressure plate or housing around the throw bearing moving. Unfortunately I don't know if this happened suddenly or was a problem that got worse over time. Any ideas?

Thanks TexasWren, I'll take a look at first chance I get. I'll try and adjust it first to see if I can build up the tension. Right now you can move the clutch with one finger up till about the last two inches of travel. I looked at the threads on the clutch adjustment prior to bringing it home last week and it doesn't appear to have been adjusted recently which lead me to believe this happened more suddenly then over time.

I'm going to assume you're talking about a foot clutch. I just got through a clutch replacement on an 830CK. My first suspicion is that the pressure & friction plates are just rust-glued to the flywheel. Mine was like that when I first got it. I managed to break it loose by standing on the brake and clutch at the same time, but that's hard on the transmission. You might look through the access cover and make sure the throwout bearing is moving freely on its sleeve (mine was frozen).

My clutch pedal moves very freely until the throwout bearing hits the pressure plate fingers. The return spring is not super strong -- just enough to keep the pedal from bouncing around and keep the throwout bearing from rubbing on the pressure plate all the time. The pedal is supposed to move pretty freely until the bearing contacts the clutch fingers (adjusted to about 2" of pedal travel).

It may sound silly, but I've run into situations where people just didn't know they were supposed to adjust wearing parts, and they swear they're bad, when they only need adjusting. Try adjusting the clutch actuating rod longer until the pedal only has 1.5-2" of free travel and see if it will disengage then.
