Weird DC4 serial number - HELP !

My friend just picked up a DC4 Case, it has a foot clutch and also an extra heavy and high cast pedestal at the front that is the front axle pivot. The strange thing is the serial number found on both the rear engine flange as well as the tin tag. It is serial number DC8026039. One serial list I saw had the 500 series starting with "80" but this definitely has DC in front of the 7 digit number. Any help out there from anyone that can explain this?

You know I heard the story that in the late 40s.. the engineer whiz kids at Case got the bright idea to put a double range in some models for around $10 to $50 depending on the model ,,,And a Danish fellow nearly throwed them all out of their jobs .. Its a wonder the Case company made it thru ,,with that kind of biased leadership ,...,Jim

Case switched to the 80 series seriel numbers in 1953 with the introduction of the foot clutch models.

Thanks JG, it's funny that there doesn't seem to be a list indicating this anywhere, unless you know of one that you might be able to provide.

The 80 DC's are from Case's unsold inventory of tractors. Some returned to the factory and had foot clutches and 4' pistons installed in an attempt to dress them up for possible sale. Some were converted by dealers. Farmers had heard about a new model and weren't too interested in the old style DC.It was a formidable tractor with live power, live hydraulics, good power,(exactly the same as a WD 45) decent seat, but only 4 gears and that hurt sales badly.
