I finally got my '44 SC together and went pulling with it. I have pulled 3 times. Twice in 4000, once in 4700, and once in 4500. I have a third in 4000, and a 4th in 4500. I am running a Case mag. When the rpm's go down it begins to misfire and then looses power pretty fast. Is a good mag good for pulling or do I need to switch to battery ignition. I chose the mag so I didn't have to add the weight of a heavy battery. I weigh 3980 to 4020 depending on the scale used, with me aboard. I need some tips on how to keep the output of the mag good enough to get rid of the missing. The mag will jump a blue spark at least 3/4". It will start with a crank on the second click! Would it be leagal to use a motorcycle battery to supply the fire?

I took Off my Mag on my SC and went to the pull and it Won! It Louged much better all the way to an idle and the best thing i ever done to it! Its starts better Plus it is better to drive and all i done was put on an IH distubitor and a new on/off switch that looked original and a jumper wire from the starter switch to the on/off switch, like the other guy said put it on a shelf for a show tractor because theres no parts for it anymore! Let me know how you make out with it! I want to make an SC Puller someday! Cliff

This is good information. I have an SC kerosene tractor. I converted it to a distributer ignition. My neighbor told me that I should have left the magneto on it because the mag is hotter and there would be less chance the kerosene will foul the spark plugs. Do you think that this is true? Your information seems to indicate that I did the right thing by putting the distributor on it.

I ran a mag for many years but lost a few placings because of it. A mag is not bad if one had a good coil but thats the big problem. and 12:1 comp. doesn't help so I switched to dists. with an Accel coil. not running petronix yet. but atleast I can go to a parts store and get ign. parts. Put on a dist. and don't look back and save the mag. for a show tractor! PS- I was going to suggest a small batt. to fire the coil. I see nothing in NATPA rules saying you can't. good luck
