Isn't an 800 a common sump between trans. and hyd. and requires TCH, Hy Tran, 303 or similar? 303 is fine in the com and is compatible with universal trans-draulic fluid

Does the tractor operate correctly when in case-o-matic drive? If so then you may want to look at the relief valve on the right side behind the cover that is round and rectangle. If this is not woking properly tractor will be soft when in direct drive, if I remember right the tractor will come to a stop in direct drive but will work in case-o-matic with the engine wound up. Also look at your pressure gauge and see what is happening when you release the pedal. Pressure should be full with clutch out and should drop when converter is engaged and then return to full pressure, do this with trans out of gear. Check and make sure your linkage is all working right. If clutch does not come all of the way out strangs things can happen, if converter rod can come out too far it will put trans back into case-o-matic drive. We always ran type A fluid in our converters sure keeps them clean.

Slipping ?,Oh Yes ! And Thanx John ,,I was hoping you would come on ,,She is definitly not ready to go to pulling a sled ,or a 16 ft disc , to plant wheat ,,there is a slight shudder in 5th and 6th when you go to direct drive..She will not go up any grade lest you go to 2 nd . We can get wound up in high out on the level road ,but it is difinitely not right . I think there is a releif valve that is sticking somewhere ,,,Tranny is still clean had good fluid in it and worked well when parked about 1992, Changed fluid only in torque convertor , ,with jd 303 ,,lol hey theres yor problem !! , and slipping got worse,,,the 4 gallon torque convertor fluid and 9 gallon or so tranny fluids are not common to one another ? correct ? I have not researched that yet ,, thanx for your interest ,,Jim

I blew one of the oil cooler lines on my 611b COM the other day. I limped it into my neighbors shop, fixed the leak and refilled it. All he had was JD303. It slips like crazy now. Maybe it was just a coincidence, I wouldn't think 303 would be that much different than TCH. Be sure to let us know what you find out.

Hey Jim: Not familiar with that J-D fluid, but it's probably OK. 800 tranny Fluids & Converter fluids don't mingle. 85 W 140 in the Tranny section. Just had a customer tell me about a relief valve over on the pump side, (rite side) that was stuck on their tractor. Can't remember who it was, but they said it looked like a major overhaul to the Converter, then they discovered that the relief valve was stuck. That would not be my luck!! If it was OK when she was parked, I'd say it's something minor. We need someone with more knowledge than me to chime in.
