I am looking to buy a 1948 model D. It has a eagle hitch operated by a single acting cylinder. Is this original. Second, Is a Case model D Positive or negative Ground.
Thanks Dave

Are you certain the tractor has an eagle hitch and not just a 2-point lifting bar? Many times this lifting bar (used for raising cultivators) is mistaken for an eagle hitch.

Dave: Eagle Hitch was no available on the DC until 1952. The D series is negative ground.

Based on the serial number, the engine may have been changed.
Look on the right side of the transmission case next to where the the drawbar attaches. there should be a small oval with a casting date in it.

I went back and checked the tractor again and there is a color difference between the engine and the rest of the tractor. I guess the engine has been changed. I'm starting to have second thoughts about this machine.
Thanks for the help
dave
