I recently found some information about a minimum till corn planter built in 1965. I work for a company called Kuhn Knight Inc. located in Brodhead WI. In December of 2002 The Kuhn company acquired Knight Mfg Co wich was started by a man named Stan Knight in 1945. I was reading about the history of the company and came accross somthing that will be of intrest to many on this site I belive. In 1965, Knight Manufacturing took on a very unique project. An agreement was made with the J. I. Case Company to build 15 prototype minium till corn planter units of various sizes. These units incorporated discs, coulters, shovels, herbicide and pesticide tanks, fertilizer bins, plus planter units. They were shipped all around the U.S.and to several countries for stress testing. Case found they barely had the tractor power to pull the units in some ground conditions. These units were the forerunners of the minium till equipment used today and this was a valuable learning experince for the company.
This was an interesting find for me and I wanted to share it with you. Does anyone ever remember seeing one of these planters? I'd love to see a Picture. Dave S

I have one of these. I have taken the units off and use it only as a chisel plow now. I still have the units in storage. Dad and I used it as a corn planter. Ours had dry fertilizer boxes on it and herbicide tanks on the tractor. It first saw duty behind a turboed 830, then a 1070, then a 1370 and finally a 2470. In hard ground I have had it stop the 1370 with duals and make the 2470 slip pretty good.

I've got one of the filmstrip programs for that setup. Case promoted as a customizable implement. showed it from a bare planter to fully equiped.

We had one of these monsters. I can barely remember it but I know it was extremely heavy. Dad had a 930 with a turbo & a different cam, and it was all it could handle.

Well that didn't work! Again!!
I did put it in the Galleries section under
Implement Photos. Labeled as Case Chisel Planter.
Why can't there be an easy way to add photos to a response on this forum?
Does anyone have a simple set of 1, 2, 3 directions???

Bob,
Thanks for moving my picture over to the forum.
I never have a problem putting one in the galleries, but I always have trouble putting one on the forum. Heck if I know what I'm doing wrong!!

I remember Dad talking about the presentation on these planters. One of the points that was made at the time was that if you did not have a 100hp tractor you would not be farming for the long haul. Turned out to be true. Now it takes almost a 100hp tractor with a rops cab to make a good all around chore tractor.
