I just picked up a 1948 Case SC (the serial number is 5212198SC) This is my first experience with Case and the seller told me it was a 1953. It has two hydraulic cylinders that operate what is similar to a three point hitch lift, but does not look like the Eagle Hitch that I see in the shop manual that I bought yesterday. Can anyone tell me what this is? Also i need the correct Radiator cap and don't have a clue where to start looking.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks...Jim

I added a hydraulic cylinder to my SC when I converted the old cultivator lifting bail to a 3 pt. hitch. The lifting bail had a cylinder on the left side and I added one on the right side where most of the load is when lifting things like rear mowers. Not having a cylinder to support the right side of the lifting bail would have caused it to bend under a heavy load. I can pick up a 5 ft. disc mower with mine. Hard to keep the front of the tractor on the ground, though.

All I can say is he is obviously not very knowledgable. I know he bought the tractor about 10 years ago from the farmer who had bought it new, but I don't know how he came up with the year of manufacture.

Do you have any idea where I can find an original radiator cap?

thanks...Jim

How could the man sell it as a 53 when you are correct its a 48? The Eagle hitch didn't come on the SC till the last couple of years of manufacture, IE- 52-54. The lift arms you are looking at works on the cultivator and a mounted plow. Might be some other uses but thats all we ever used ours for (4).
