I have a 311 case tractor that has been used with a 12 volt battery on a 6volt tractor system. My question is what ignation, such as distributor would be harmed. Also how do you tell if a starter is a 6 or a 12 volt. A

Some of the round nose 300's were 12v from the factory, I think all the 300B were factory 12v.

Assuming you have a 12v gen or alt, the only thing 12v on a 6v system will impact is the fuel gauge, coil, and headlights. A 6v coil will live for awhile, if it has a ballast in series it isn't a problem.

The starter will handle either 6v or 12v unless you crank it to death, they are rarely changed out on a 6v to 12v conversion. The round nose 300 6v starter is Autolite MZ4139 (LP) or MZ4176 (gas), 12v starter is Autolite ML4352.

I have a 311B also, it is factory 12v. There are no 6v parts listed in the Case parts manual for the 300B series, everything is 12v.
