Hydraulic remotes work somewhat when the tractor is below 1000 rpm but are very slow and make terrible noises when I pull remote lever and the tractor is above 1000 rpm. They still work slowly above 1000 rpm. I hooked a line up to remote and dumped into resivoir. It builds correct pressure and flows a lot of volume to sump. Manual says that the charge pump should be forcing 15 psi of fluid to the 2 hyd pump suction lines. I put a gauge on the test port and it is reading 0 psi. I took the gauge off the test port and with the tractor running at 1200 rpm, it actually has a vacuum on the line instead of 15 psi. Took charge pump out and it seems to be good, not too wore out. Turned the engine over with the cover off and I can see the charge pump spinning (gear pump). The line actualy builds up 10 or more psi at 700 rpm. I just cleaned the suction strainer and the test port does not have to go through the filters, so they can't be the problem. Any ideas? A new pump from case is over $1,700. It is so small and simple, I can't believe it costs so much.

thanks

Found a place on the internet that sell those WIX filters CHEAP!!!

The #51853 I ordered was $31.71
and I also ordered the #51571 for $7.33
and shipping was $9 for all 4 filters.

about half the price of the closest competitor.

Stephen, I"d change the hyd filters no matter how recent they are, using HEAVY DUTY$$ ones. (Wix equivelent # 51853 are cheaper) If charge pump gears, hsg., & seals look OK,pump is OK. Did you recieve my email to your recent post on powershift rebuild problems?

No I did not get an email from you. I still can't figure out that powershift. It seems to be working fine, but I have no idea how it fixed itself and what could have caused all that smoke?

What would make the Wix "heavy duty" filters any better? If these are clogged, then they are doing their job. I think they were $18 from Case.

thanks

The Case hyd filter, #A176593 costs $70 plus, Wix, 51853, $53. These are High capacity\flow oil filters. The standard filter, A46403 is what you got now.

The seals on the charge pump look good. Charge pump itself doesn't look bad.

With the remotes in neutral the tractor sounds normal, but I still don't have charge pump pressure if above 1000 rpm.

I hooked a hose with a gauge and valve into the remotes and this is what I found. The pump only makes noise when it is building press and then quiets down (I guess turns off) when pressure gets somewhere above 2000 psi. With valve wide open and max flow going through the hose to sump and lowest pressure, the pump is also quiet. It only starts making noise when I start to pinch the valve closed. Why are Case hydraulics sooooo complicated?

I guess you don't have anyway to flowrate the pump? You have pressure but you don't know about the flow, from memory it should have around 22gallons at 2350psi.It sounds like the pump maybe going out. Find someone to check the flow

That red material is coming from the pto clutches and/or the brake discs. When you had it split did you have the pto out? if not the whole rear frame is probably full of red stuff. To clean that screen the best you can you need to remove the pto and wash the junk out the back and then figure out where it's coming from. Thewre are some strip seals on the charge pump that make be leaking and letting it suck air. And there maybe another problem on the remote valves them selves, there are some orings on the signal check valves and those are what tells the pump to kick in. On the back side of the valve stack there is a plug with a oring and a check ball check that oring and there is another one under the detent housing, but there more disassembly required to get to it.

OK I drained oil, and pulled the shift fork cover. I could see some red flakes on the strainer. It is either RTV silicon or Case orange paint. It is fairly bright reddish-orange. The part of the screen that I could see was probably 1/3 clogged. I took a shop vac and adapted a 3/8" plastic hose to it and vacuumed out what I could see and reached around to the other side and tried to get what I couldn't see.

Could the 1/3 clogged screen be the problem? Or could it be a combination or wore out charge pump and partially clogged screen?

help please

thanks

I checked out the relief valve without taking it out. It looked to be sealing and I took a lot of finger pressure to lift it (pushed very hard). So that tells me that the spring is not broke.

I had the tractor split about 5 hrs ago and I cleaned it then. It was making this noise before, but has gotten worse. I split it originally to fix the powershift. The powershift is now working good, steering is good, brakes good, etc. It just has the slow remotes and makes a terrible noise when operating them. The noise is coming from the pump becasue I think that it is not getting enough suction pressure.

thanks

Remove the hyd. filters. Look up inside the housing you should see a silver thing held in with 2 bolts. That is the filter relief valve. Remove and inspect it. You might find it stuck open or the spring broke. How did you clean the suction screen. The tractor has to be split to do this right. Stan
