I met James Kettleson who ran Tenneco, and also ran J.I.Case as CEO before the Tenneco days,he told me they literally ran the cash around to get it to the bank to keep the company going.Mr Kettleson who ran Tenneco had a "Case Eagle" in his office in Houston and always had a fond heart for Case.I thought allot of Mr Kettleson.

Mr.Kettleson - Case Co in reply to Ande, 01-10-2007 11:33:54
Hi Ande,
Very interested in your quote re your personal meeting up with Mr.J.L.Kettleson, who was a former J.I.Case Co President. In my opinion if it had not been for this man's dedication, efforts etc etc to the name CASE and it's products, the name Case and its products and factories etc would have been long gone today !!!

Again in my opinion he was a man in millions who really had the company and it's products at heart, he lived, ate and slept CASE., in other words he was Jerome.I.Case all over again.

A wonderful man that I for one will never forget for his efforts and dedication to the J.I.Case Co during those difficult difficult times !!!

Sincere regards

Hi Alan, you hit it right on the nail,if I can use that American term,to describe you are right on,Mr Kettleson did save so much of J.I.Case's heritage. He did eat, sleep,Case Co.Its not easy running a company without funds as we all know. But Mr Kettleson was one of those men.And all of us Case "buffs" are better off because of it.

My grandfather stuck with Case because "They didn't engineered the weight out" and everything was over built with a lot of cast iron. Compare a WD Allis to a DC, close to the same HP, but the DC weights in at 5300 lbs. and the WD is 3500 lbs.

JR, is this one of the units you are speaking of?
Saw it before and wondered about it.

Let's go back a little farther.. Who was the leader of Steam Engine production? How about the first steel threshing machine?

HI JR.;I was impressed with the Antique Power's
lastest issue about the Case 500, a 'Brute of a
Tractor' and the many things mentioned in that artical of Case engineering and how much ahead
of the other makes it was. It just made me feel a lot of pride in the name Case and will be on the look out for the tractor or at least more information,a really really great article to read. I don't have the Case history a lot of you other experianced Case historians have. It was just my first tractor, the "300" when I started farming. I'm old enough,'74' but our first source of horse power for me was "horses" and the second was a Ford 9N after the end of the war in '46.and I was 14 years old then. Roger

My Dad always said Case designed the 1st live PTO, but sold the patents to Oliver. Harry Kline later confirmed this. Case Combines were always superior. The patents for the 306 Corn Head were sold to deere. Here is a dumb question: What is a T-90? Anybody got a picture?

Case was an early leader in balers, forage harvesters, corn pickers, corn planters, tractor plows and seemed to lose their competitive edge in all of these categories quickly. Bad management, poor marketing, no money for engineering improvements, poor dealer representation or a combination?
