I have a friend whose father has a 1943 Case DC. I have yet to see it, but it is now parked in a barn. I guess it was running when parked. I don't know much about the condition, but he want's $800 for it. I am going to go look at it this weekend. I don't know much about Case, but am posting this to ask you all, the experts, what you think about the DC and what a tractor like this is worth if running, repainted (restored) and if parts are readily available.

Thanks
Bob

Are you going to have to buy rear tires for it? If you have to buy tire and do a major engine overhaul, you will probably have more in it than you can recover by selling it.

I think he said he had a second 43 model for parts. I have to go out there this weekend and see what he has.

I bought a 46 case dc last feb. for $1000. It was in good shape had older paint job and a few small parts missing. So i would say 500 to 800 in decent shape and running would be fair. a reconditioned one would be about 1200 to 2000 area would be fair. hope this helps you out

Keith

Go for it @ that price, especially if it isn't stuck. They are tough, powerfull (for their size) old girls. Parts aren't too tough to get. Chicken roost steering eliminates the need for power steering. We've got a couple of them that sill "earn their keep" on the farm. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I was looking at restoring it and selling. WOndering what one in restored condition would bring.

txasylum Bob: I've never bought and resold tractors, but some years ago I did pay two years community college expenses for the wife by buying and reselling cars. If you're looking to make money for some reason, even modest amounts, make sure what you buy just needs things you can easily fix/replace yourself and cosmetics (cleaning one up can be quite labor-intensive in itself) and is popular enough to have a good market. Once you get into major expenses or have to pay shop/labor costs expected profit quickly turns into immediate loss. And if you're not well experienced in how the mechanical end should act and sound, find someone who is to check things out with you; buying one that "ran when it was parked" is like playing the stock market: only use money you can afford to lose. Sorry to be so negative; you can make money if you're careful...and luck helps. Best wishes.

It will be worth about 1/4 of what you have in it not counting labor.

If you want a tractor to restore for yourself go for it. if you want to make money forget it.

Walt's right. Even if you got it free, and paid yourself $0.00 in labor, if you really restored it, you'd loose at least $1000.00. The tires alone can cost you that much. A fully restored DC, rebuilt engine, new clutch, brakes, etc. will cost at least $4000.00 to complete. I've never seen one sell for more than $3,000.00. If you want a hobby, and love old iron, go for it, but as a profit producer you'd be better off bagging groceries. LOL! Ted

Thanks for all the advice. I looked at it and it will need a new engine cowling, paint, one tire. Don't know if it runs yet. He does have a parts tractor to go with it, but I think I'm going to pass.
