Mike,
Here are some pictures of my Case 630's power steering unit. I hope they are ok. Please excuse the condition of the paint. It ain't the prettiest but it runs good.

Phil,

Thanks for the pics. Looks to me like we should be able to adapt one of the 630's to powersteering. Did you have to add any bracing for the loader? I'm just curious as we plant to put a loader on one as soon as we get the loader and tractor. I've heard they are a little weak for a loader, but I've heard they are ok for a loader, so I'd like to hear more thoughts on that.

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I didn't do any thing extra for the loader except for the loader frame. I did break a spindle one time but i wasn't using the loader at the time but the loader use may have weakened it. Before I bought it it had a loader but that was sold separately. I had an Allied 450 loader put on it. The mechanic had to make brackets to fit the frame. The loader has a 5' bucket and it is sort of slow when full of manure. I think that if there was a bar or channel frame connecting the front end to the clutch housing it might make the whole tractor a little stronger for use with a loader. My loader frame is arrached to the front and then goes back and is attached to the rear axle housing. Maybe you can tell from the attached picture.

Tell Mike yes this engine did come out of a combine but i bought it from a person using it in a puller tractor. Besides the oil dipstick I had to use my old valve cover and adapt the top radiator hose. Tell mike also that the correct color for the tin is Desert Sunset, Tisco # TP580, or old PPG # 81357. The red is known as Flambeau Red. Case didn't start using white til into the 70's. Write back with more pictures and info. Hope I helped some.

Phil

Hi Phil,

You have helped out temendously, so have a few others on this site and my brother and I appreciate it. I believe the other 630 we bought has a 291a Case loader with it, but I wanted to make sure that whichever tractor we put it on that we don't damage the tractor when using it. I don't plan to use it to pick up anything really heavy, but I don't want to hurt the tractor, either if I might have to. The pictures of the power steering helped out a lot, too. It makes it much more worthwhile to buy the parts tractor. We want to put the power steering on the tractor with the loader and your pictures show me that it can be done without having to buy any parts or at least I think it can..... ( famous last words).....

Keep in touch,

Stuart

Hey Phil, your engine oil dipstick is on the wrong side, didjya swap the motor out a 600 combine? Looks like you could use some Lucas in the power steering... Mine used to drool like Pavlov's dog until I put a couple of shots of brake fuild in it. That sealed it right up. Although next time I think I'll use Lucas, it's too hard to get it all flushed back out. How about some pic's of the rest of the tractor?
