Today, Talked to a friend ,Who has a problem with a POPPING Noise in the his VAC tranny ..thinking it to be a bad bearing, He changed both axle bearings ,, Removed the outer parts of the brakes ., Still made the noise ,, Does it in forward gears only , has tried 2nd and ,3rd momentarily with same result , Will not Dare high gear ,Been a while since He run this tractor,, He a little discouraged with it ,, Tractor looks real good and from the looks of wear points it shows little wear or abuse, My Guess is , If someone did not keep enough oil in the tranny over the last 50 years any thing could happen ,, But which bearing could be making this POPPING Noise , anyone got a clue ? Thanx ,, JIM & Rodney

Mine did that. Was the front bearing on the shaft in the torque tube.

I did mine over a winter. Figured I might as well do it right while I had it apart. Replaced every bearing and seal aft of the flywheel and relined the brakes. Naturally the engine blew up the next summer. I'm building a 250+cid stroker motor for it now...

Thanxz Augie is it the Main drive pinion and bevel gear that causes the desribed POPPING ? That is my guess I hear your pain , but I do believe You will have a strong Runner when you get her up and Going .. Around here we are tinkering with a SC and a 800 for the last 4 years or so ,Both were destined for the junk yard , But I keep pouring more dollars in and Hoping I will get 2 Real tractor some day , Thanx and Good Luck , Jim

Jim, If you need a transmission, there is one sitting on a pallet just a couple of miles from you. Let me know if you are interested. Dennis 969-2708

If the lug nuts on a rear wheel get loose the rim will move back and forth and make an intermittent popping noise against the rim stop.
