Assuming you now have 30 inch on the LA look at interface wheel center to rim. There are 2 or 3 common interfaces - one has single raised hump about an inch high - other common (more modern) design has 2 smaller raised areas. I think you will find the MM are the single hump variety as well as the Case, but best to measure dia at smallest point. I thought the LA's had 34", but I'm mostly AC & MM so don't know for sure. As I recall there are also some anti-rotation stops which you should be able to confirm with eyeball and measuring tape.

I Think ACEd has good advice on the rims. As for tire sizes LA's came with 14 X 30 as standard, 15 X 30 optional. These are replaced now with 16.9 X 30 for the 14" 18.4 X 30 for the 15 ".

I have 18.4 x 30 tires on a 1944 LA. Not much clearance between tire and fender.

The other (1949) LA has 16.9 x 30. It has plenty of clearance.
