During the recent ice storm here in Missouri I had to really work my old DC,chaining and dragging downed tree's and pulling down dead falls etc. My hearing is pretty sorry, but I think there is a knock down low about the top of the pan and back about number two or three cylinder. That says rod to me, and I don't recall anything like this before. At first I thought it was a vibration when idling since I had chains and tools hanging all over the old girl, but that wasn't it. I don't hear it when the rpm's are up. What do you think? What can I do? Thanks

It could be a piston also. Removed a spark plug to determine which one it is. The noise will either get louder or go away (darn if I can remember which is which) but one way its a rod the other its the piston. Boy old age must be catching up on me.

Better be sure. Drain oil and pull a side plates. Check the rod caps, check journals and remove the shims on caps if journals are okay. Babbot is forgiving and you might get lucky. Good luck

Agree to check those Rod Bearings!! Let us know what the problem is , And What you found , Sadly 10 years back,, while bush hogging some saplings I lost a Good DC motor when a snag or sharp object nicked the oil pressure line and she literally bled to death , I kick myself for not noticing the small leak ,,. Friend of mine had a Nice 285 Massey , While chopping corn stalks late at nite , the oil filter was nicked ,, And She too ,bled too death I hope that You caught Her In Time ,, Best wishes ,, Jim
