You can tell if pump is turning by removing timing window on side of pump and observing front rotor while turning over eng. Did this eng run before or just run out of fuel. Lots of things it could be before you rip off the pum!! Larry

No transfer pump on a Roosa Master pump. in reply to MAH, 04-08-2007 07:11:01
The Roosa Master does NOT have a transfer pump. It's gravity feed. Is the stop lever on the pump fully in the run position? Did someone put gasoline in the tank by mistake? Both will cause a no run condition. If both questions are answered by "no", it's time for a removal of the pump and a fuel injection pump service center.

When you say you"re getting fuel to the pump, are you talking about the transfer pump or the injection part of it? I found a broken shear pin on mine yesterday on a "55 400 Diesel. I could get fuel to the transfer pump but not to the rest of the system. Took the pump apart, cleaned out the crud that plugged it up, built a new shear pin, bled the system and it fired up. Might be the same issue you"re having.

The pin that broke on the American Bosch pump causes engagement between the pump drive gear on the back of the pump and the shaft going into the pump. Without it the pump would not turn and not pump fuel. It was real simple after I removed the screws and bolts on the transfer pump and bumped the starter... the gears weren"t turning when the engine was. From there it wasn"t difficult.

Hope this helps.
