If, like you say, you have sandy ground, it will pull it. If you bring it over by me, The only way you"ll pull it is if you don"t put it in the ground. We need 60+ hp to pull 3-14s.

My Case LA is rated at 4 or 5 bottom plow has about 50 drawbar hp.
But in real hard soil it has trouble with my 4 bottom. Walt

15 horsepower per bottom in reply to 30 pointer, 04-10-2007 16:41:27
The "rule of thumb" is 15 horsepower per bottom. 45 horsepower should handle a 3 bottom plow in most soil conditions. The plow will pull easier with each colter set 1" beyond the inside edge of the plow point and 1" above the plow point. That slices the dirt and stubble so that the plowshare only needs to flip instead of rip.

I've done lots of plowing with 3-16's mounted on a MasseyFerguson 65. Limestone clay, alfalfa roots as well as easier soil. The MF65 pulled the plows in sandy soil effortlessly. The MF 65 gas rates just under 50 hp. I always figured about 1 hp per inch of plow ex.3x16=48; the MF65 is around 48 hp.

Don't know about an 841, but a 800 and 801's have about 45 to 50 hp and they should pull a 3-16 mounted plow.
