Hi All,
I have a 148 in a "57 320 loader that has one piston stuck at the bottom of the stroke. I have soaked it for a year but it does not want to move. I took off the rod cap & put a bar up inside the piston & jacked up until the front of the loader came off the ground but the piston & liner did not come up out of the block. This IS a wet liner, right? Other than busting a hole in the piston to rig a puller from the top does anyone have a good idea how to get the liner & piston out of the block?

Thanks Tim,

But the 148 IS a wet liner, right? I just don't want to be beating the tar out of it if the liner is pressed in.

I can't get anything much but a solid 3/4 bar up inside the piston because the crank & rod are in the way. She stuck when the crank was at dead center on the bottom so I can't rotate the crank to the side. I did remove the bearing shell so that gave me a little room to try to move the piston down. But I thought if I could push the piston up with the liner, I could take it to a shop & have the piston pressed down & out.

Put up pressure on the piston, then heat the liner with a torch. Not all in one spot, but evenly, all over.Don't get it hot enough to melt anything, just nice and hot. After getting it hot, squirt wd40 around the piston.

Thanks Tim,

I hadn't thought about that but it should slightly expand the liner & with luck make the piston pop loose.
I'm going to hone out all the crud I can reach first so if it does start to move it won't go far before it should go easier. From the other pistons I see that the water didn't get past the rings, not like some real bad ones where the whole piston is corroded.

Try putting the "up" pressure on the piston, then rig some blocks of wood on top of the block, then driving down with a sledge. You may want to drive down on the sleeve that's stuck. You may try a piece of wood (oak) cut to fit inside the piston from underneath and drive it upward with a sledge, too. Good Luck.
