New to this forum; just bought an old 580CK and need to know what type of oil you use in the shuttle shift and how much it holds?

I've been told it takes 10 wt oil and that hydraulic oil is 10 wt?

I have 2 5gal cans of Sam's club hydraulic oil is it OK to use this in the shuttle shift?

The case manuals are on the way but don't have them yet!

Thanks for any help.

I assume your 580CK has a Power Shuttle, which uses a Torque Converter, as opposed to a Mechanical Shuttle, which has a conventional manual friction (dry) clutch. Both were available on the 580CK.
The operators manual calls for Case TCH oil for the Power Shuttle. TCH stands for Transmission, Converter, Hydraulic. Since Case and IH integrated long after our 580's were built Case/IH (which is now CNH) now sells what is called HyTran as the clone of TCH.
I always trust the OEM before I go for the cheap stuff from China. Last I heard Walmart is a discount retailer not a manufacture who engineers some of the best equipment built in the USA.
Small savings considering the potential cost of poor lubrication for an excellent machine which is getting quite aged. Just this Farmers opinion.

Thanks Jim B. I"m new to this stuff and yes it is a torque coverter type which sits ahead of the trans; has a bolt with dipstick on the cover plate and 2 drain plugs on the underside of the trans/shuttle.

Any idea how much oil it holds? I assume I can get the HyTran from any case dealer?

Thanks
Dave

Hey Dave,
Just going from memory here but I believe it’s 17 quarts. Sorry I can’t be explicit, my manuals are on loan to a friend who just bought a 580CK Backhoe/Loader and he’s not answering his phone. . No matter, the exact fill is still measured with the dip-stick. Case/IH Ag dealers or Case Equipment industrial dealers will have Hytran.

Thought you might find this Website usefulLink
It>Link is the Case Construction Equipment, online parts catalog. Very helpful if you don’t have a hardcopy of the manual. When you enter the model number in the Search field, just enter 580, not 580CK. In the next screen select the 580 Construction King, then select the Figure List. The rest is quite easy to navigate.
The exploded views not only ID the part numbers but a picture is great to assist with repairs. This website also has a dealer locator.
Welcome to the world of Case, good ol’ machines.
