Got the brakes lined out, put on new battery cables, key switch and voltmeter. Will have a rollbar and a new fuel tank made ASAP. Then will add some work lights, maybe new hydraulic hoses. Needs new temp gauge, maybe do that this week, too. Does anyone know how many horsepower these tractors have? It's a '66 model 930 with Draftomatic, the tag says it's a 931, what's the difference? I know nothing about Case tractors, but am quite familiar with the 850 Dozers. Nobody around here buys Cases, all Ford, JD, or MF. Also need to know what fluid to use in power steering. Will cut a door in the hood to check/add power steering fluid, seems the factory forgot to do that and I REFUSE to take the hood off every time I check fluids. Been driving trucks too long for that nonsense. Thanks in Advance, KY Jim

I am very new, a rookie actually to the antique tractor restoration scene. I would like any guidance in finding a Case 930 diesel to restore. Any information on these tractors would be greatly appreciated as well. The 930 was what I first learned to drive as a young boy.

Tom, Which version of the 930 are you looking for? What do you remember about your 930? There were a bunch of changes over the years. The early ones don't have much in common with the late ones. The biggest change being the hand clutch chain drive being replaced by the foot clutch gear drive. About the only thing common between the first 930s and the last is the headlights and the Old Abe sittin between em!

I know both of the ones I drove were later models, perhaps 68 or 69. They both had the foot clutch, gear drive. Both were very solid tractors and were actually 931 (row crop). Anything else I will be checking on today with my dad he remembers more. He will probably remember the years.

68 or 69s should have a red steering column. 67s and older Comfort Kings had sand colored.

They both had red steering columns. Where are you able to find this kind of information or have you been around CASE tractors so much that you are just that knowledgeable. I remember much about them but that was 25 years ago and I don't want to be on the wrong end of a transaction. There is also a possibility that I may be able to get the 69 as my cousin might have parked it in the weeds. I am waiting to hear from him, that would be so much easier but the one I really want is the one my dad had which was a 68, but I have been unable to locate it as of yet!

I just try to notice little differences whenever I'm around them. I learn from reading the posts on this site. Collecting the old sales info helps too. Spin on fuel filters should be the norm on the late models, but not sure about the oil filters. Most 69s had the spin on but many of the 68s seem to have the element in the can type. Just another little difference I notice but can't tell you if it was a change on all models at a certain serial number or if the spin on oil filter was an option when the tractor was ordered by the dealer. Someone else out there always knows more than I can tell you. Good luck on the tractor hunting!

Thanks, guys. Squirt bottle is excellent idea. Yeah, I sort of figured it for a Row Crop or High Crop, it's a good seven or eight feet tall. If you fall off of this one, you're hurt BAD. The tag on the engine says it's a Model 401, and it is a diesel. Looks like a small Cummins, to me. And this thing will flat GIT it down the highway! Still learning to shift gears without rakin' and scrapin', doable but not easy, double-clutching a must. It goes fast enough that bugs hurt when they hit you. Guess that's why they got a speedo. The 1 in the model number means it is a row crop tractor

As Gene said, don't cut the hood! I use a small squeeze type mustard bottle to fill the power steering tank. It fits up under the hood and won't leak until squeezed.

Don't cut the hood. You can check the power steering by reaching up behind the pump and twisting off the cap. Use your finger for a dipstick to check level. If you need to add fluid, use a small pump oil can with a short hose clamped on the spout to direct oil into the pump. Use common ATF Dexron or Mercon fluid... Gene
