While I am waiting for my parts to come in for my engine I took apart the brakes on this DC and found what appears to be grease in the break area. Is this suppose to be in these or do I have a leaking seal?

Yes, there is a seal. You may want to check the level of the gear oil in your transmission to make sure it is not over full. The Case SC (not sure about the DC)has a drain hole between the brake housing and the tractor housing to let excess oil escape. The opening can be kept clear by running a stiff wire up through it. If the lining is good, you can probably get a lot of the grease off with brake cleaner. The Lucas product may work for you? If you want to try to replace the seal,a trick people use to prevent the splined shaft from damaging the new seal is to slide a cut-off plastic bottle over the shaft as you are installing it.

Where do you put the Lucas Hub Seal at?

Pour LUCAS in the tranny oil and drive it around to circulate the oil for a couple hours , Jim

If its like my 630 its a leaking seal or punctured sealing plug in the differential brake gear shaft. Not too bad to fix. For a pretty good exploded drawing (if you don't have a repair manual) go to the parts search in the Case IH Web site. You will see the shaft seal and o-ring required. For the shaft seal puncture (seal looks like a freeze plug) e-mail me via this site. I found an ingenious way to fix mine without disassembling the complete differential if you don't need to right now.

J , Not absolutly sure , I am afraid the DC is a bit different from the beloved 30 series , I Always try LUCAS HUB SEAL first Every DC and SC that ever came wandering up the driveway looking for a home here ,have had this problem . After Lucas treatment , All are remarkably improved and have good brakes ., I have repaired DAD s DC which I bought from him 15 years back , and put in new seals , must a busted it somewhere putting it in because one side still leaks , For that reason I go to the mechanic in a bottle first ,, Good Luck , Jim
