mBl is right! Unless someone has changed things from the factory, all connecting rods have numbers on the rod itself and the rod cap. That's done so that you don't mixup the rods and rod caps. Also, they're numbered so that you can put the piston back into the same bore if you're re-ringing. Those two matching numbers on the rod/rod cap will face the CAMSHAFT when being installed. There should be a small arrow (on most 188 pistons) on the top of the piston. Make sure that arrow points to the front. If you put the pistons in 180 degress wrong, the pistons will hit the valves!
