I have a 1370 that overall is a good machine, but with a few problems:
It seems to "flutter" at near wide open throttle with little or no load. Idle back a little or put a load to it and the problem goes away. I saw a post about this a few years ago, but cant find it now.
Power shift shifts very sudden and hard. I usually idle down to take some of the jerkiness out of it. Is this normal, or will it cause damage? Is it a simple adjustment?
The three piont wont stay up. It will drift down, and then back up again. Any help with these problems would be appreciated. I have been useing this tractor for hauling wagon loads lately and am starting to get concerned about some of these problems. Thanks, John.

I agree with Jim...especially when using road gear (4th range) shift the power shift up as you decrease throttle. The change in speed are greater in road gear and you traction is greater. I find this produces a little smoother shifts. Not as much of a problem when in the field because you arent going as fast and less traction. I assumed you were using road gear a lot because you said you were hauling wagons.

The Power Shift (RPS) will typically shift hard and lunge the tractor if the Draft-Load is minimal. When the tractor is pullin' hard, like with a chisel plow, the shifts are not as extreme as the Load absorbs much of that torque.

This can be minimized with proper adjustment of the two "retard valves" located in the RPS master control valve-body assembly! These are needle-valves designed to slow the disengagement of the clutch which is releasing as the clutch for the next gear is engaging. Adjusting these valves require following a defined procedure in the service-manual and use of a dedicated RPS test device is also required. Basically it's a factory setting.

Like you, On our 4x4 2470 & 2870, I also somewhat feather the throttle up-or-down when shifting up-or-down. Not unlike a good operator would do with a manual transmission. Although that's not as necessary if she's pullin' hard.

On the rear of injection there is a somewhat long small nut . Under it is a larger cap nut-remove this being careful not to turn thin locking nut against injection pump. Than start engine an with engine at idle turn screw in-clockwise-intill you increase idle speed than back off small amount an that should fix it. As for other problem others are better able to help you.
