Hi All,

I have a 1030 that I bought as a basket case and I have bought rebuilt heads for the tractor and new valves. I have now discovered that 3 of the 6 powercels look pretty rough and I need to replace them I would to prefer to replace all 6. DOes anyone have any that are good and used case seems to be very proud of them. Thanks for your help.

Case was not the only manufacturer to use indirect injection. In fact the concept predates direct injection in diesel engines!

Hoss, the "proven concept" of the PowerCell was great for cold starting and fuel efficiency but it did not work well with turbo charging. So the concept died with the need for more horsepower per cubic inch (or should I say dollar).

Iv.e got a 830 com with a 301. I overhauled the eng and has a low spd skip and am suspecting a couple power cells. Never touched them. What exactly do they do anyways? Later,Hoss

The injector squirts a shot of fuel across the intake pocket into the powercell where the combustion takes place, the burning gasses then come out of the powercell opening at a rate controlled by the size of the opening in the powercell, pushing the piston down the bore. As you can see the seal between two metal to metal surfaces must be precise to handle the probably thousands of pounds of pressure produced by the burning fuel charge

The power cells on the case diesel engines MUST be lapped to a precision finish that will hold the combustion pressures without any leakage or even seepage. To use used ones without the proper resurfacing process done on them is asking for burned through powercell caps and bodies as well as possible irrepairable damage to the head itself. They are expensive to buy new but you will be money ahead if you do it properly and save a head or two, even new ones should be lapped in to a precision fit with the caps and bodies matched and kept together and carefully installed to keep from damaging matched polished surfaces. there is a special lapping block and a tallow compound required to do it properly. Also , clean is the word when installing the caps to the bodies.
