Can anyone recommend an 12 volt alternator that would be the best fit for a 57' Case 311? I am hoping you can suggest one that will come close to the current generator mounts and come close to fitting inside the tin.

The front casting and tin work on a 311 is narrower than a 311b. There is less room between the block and the tin. I have put delco 10si alternators on my b series tractors, but it looks like they would be tight on the 312 I am now working on. I have a denso unit that i found that is small, that looks like a possibility.

I'm not sure if they're the same, but I was able to just squeeze in a delco 12si in my 411B. It was tight at the side panel, but it fits and looks good. I had to use a little shorter belt. To mount it I drilled the holes out in the generator bracket and used a long bolt and spacer on it. The top bracket(the one for tightening the belt) is slightly bent one off a 2390 and bolted on at the thermostat housing instead of the original location to clear the larger diameter alternator. If you want a pic I can get one tomorrow.

The pic would be GREAT, thank you very much. Even if it is not the same as my 311, it will give me a visual to go by!

Thanks
