My 1952 Case DC 4 tractor's hand clutch lever will not move forward far enough to snap into place to engage the clutch as normal. When I hold the handle forward the clutch engages. However, as soon as I let go of the hand lever the clutch disengages. It appears the clutch lever travels half of the normal distance then stops before it snaps into place. Any assistance to diagnosis my clutch issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dale

You may have a broken pressure plate where the three hinges that make up the over center part are fastened. This would explain why holding the clutch in makes it go. If a pin came out or an ear breaks off in there your overcenter pressure will be gone. Take a look in there and if nothing is broke, adjust up the clutch per manual instructions. Good luck.

Dale;
Are you sure you are pushing hard enough to get the over center linkage to snap in? A properly adjusted clutch requires 40 pounds of push to snap over center. A tighter adjustment may require a harder push... Gene

Someone has adjusted the clutch too tight. You need to take the cover off the side of the clutch housing and back off the collar a couple of notches. Your DC owners manual shows the procedure.
