1070 differential - work through PTO??

Got the PTO housing off the back of the 1070 to look at the differential. At least one spider gears is broken up. It looks like enough room to bring it out through the back if we remove the bowl gears, but we have a couple of questions.

Is it possible to get the draftomatic shaft out of the road enough to pull it though the back?

If we can get it out to repair it, is it physically possible to get the thing back in place from the back to put it back together?

If neither of the two above are possible, how do you remove the top cover without removing the cab? (mel - show me the way!)

Mike, give me a call, I explained as good as I could to your dad, but maybe I can copy part of the service manual for you or help somehow else.
You have my numbers.

It can all be done through the PTO opening. You do not need to remove the top cover. You will need a puller to remove and reinstall the differential cross shaft, which is threaded on both ends, after you remove the side gears. Mark the location of the sensing shaft, do not move any levers after removal.
