Found this listed on Kruse's Auction for Garys sale comming up in April. Is this a conversion as I never recalled Case having a 500 gas tracto let alone a LP. Here is a picture of it.

Gene,

Wrong front end for a 520. Front axles were straight like the SI and DI's. I do know there was a LAI in my neck of the woods that had a standard front. Think it was added when converted to a 371 detroit. Whole thing about this one is paint seems to match engine and trans together. Did you by chance get any pictures of the 500 gas and LP you seen at the show.

Just went through my pictures from Plain City and don't have any photos of them. Think I have every cross motor there though... Gene

Tom,

Looking in my 150 years of JI Case they only show the 509 in diesel. Looking at the radiator it does not have bolt holes on the side for headlights. To bad they never listed the serial number for it. The 619 had LP only. Would be interesting to check it out more, but I feel the same as you do about the 10.00 entrance fee or if you buy the book it admitts 2 in free.

Starter looks like it bolts on like a 500 should. I blew the picture up and was thinking the 500 might read 509 which is a stationary engine?

Gotta be some kind of "hybrid", doesn't it? A propane rig that got mated to the trans and rear end of an LA?

The 500 used the same rear end and 4 speed transmission as the LA... Gene

Count the spark plugs, it can't be a LA motor as it is a 6 cylinder.

I wonder if it isn't an LA that someone put an LP 600 engine into as my parts book does not show any LP equipment for the 500. Nothing in "Full Steam Ahead" indicates that Case made any LP 500's. I'm not saying you are wrong Gene, it's just a new one to me.

The front end is not a LA as they did not have the front mounting holes, just a rounded casting.
Plain City, Ohio featured Case a few years ago and had 2 spark ignition 500's there. One gasoline and one LP. Owners both said they were original, so this is what I base my statement on. Possible they were converted, but seems this would be a step backward... Gene

What is that front casting from? Not LA, 500, 600, 900 or 930. No mounting holes for headlights on the side of the radiator either like on the late LA's, 500's and 600's. Has 7" flat lense fender mounted lights like an LA. Might be worth a trip to Bridgeport just to take a closer look!

I checked photos in my copy of "Full Steam Ahead" again. That front casting is the same as on an LAI. I agree with Caseman that the hood shows "509". I'll stand by my assertion that it's a put together tractor.
Lars, if you want to pay $10.00 just to get into the auction, go ahead; I refuse to do so.
I know I will miss seeing all the stuff when I go by Gary's in the future.

Definitely a 500 LP gas. Has 6 cylinders and different front end than a LA.
Yes, Case did produce LP powered 500"s... Gene
