I have a 1070 case that the left brake applies without pushing down the pedal. What could my problem be and how to fix it?

My unprofessional opinion is you have a spool sticking in the brake valve body on the firewall. Take the line off... careful not to lose the brass washers. Then remove the nut/plug the brake line bolt screwed into. Inside will be a spool. I think a small machine bolt will thread inside to allow you to pull it out. Remove, clean, and move it in and out several times to make sure there is noting catching on it. Reassemble. All should be good. Now, depending on what caused the valve to stick you may be ok for a long time or for a very short time. We had on go for several months before checking the oil and finding it has metalic grindings in it. Really fine almost powdered metal bits. Was bypassing filters since they were plugged and would bind up the spools. Finally split it and found a weak belleville spring on the flywheel which allowed the torque limiter clutch to slip and eat up the flywheel. Not a good thing.

mEL i have checked and it seems to be the hyd brake box that is the problem. All the pedal linkages are in normal order and are hooked up and returning the spool in the box. When its doing it the small cylinder on the brake housing is maxed out in the raised position. As soon as you kill the engine it will drop. It does sound as if it has a valve sticking or maybee leaking by a seal. Thanks greatly for the help guys.

There is what is known as sump pressure that is present in the brake systen anytime the engine is running. That is why you can bleed the brakes without help as all you have to do is open the bleeder and sump pressure will force the air out. but that should affect both brakes. I'm leaning toward the brake valve, there are small orings and seals on the actuator piston stem, it must be disassembled to repair it. I will not recommend that a inexperienced person disassemble it, it is a job for an experienced Case Technician.

If it only applies when you turn the steering wheel either direction, the LH boost spool behind the brake line fitting is stuck. You will need a 3/4 and 7/8 wrench to access the spool and a snap ring plier to pull it out.

First check the return spring on the pedal to make sure the pedal is coming all the way back. There is a nylon retainer that attaches the brake push rod to the brake master cylinder piston on power brake models, if that fails the piston fails to retract and can allow pressure to build up in the brake. The piston must be pulled back against its snap ring by the pushrod and pedal return spring. These come to mind quickly but mechanical problems could occour inside the actual brake assembly. If an inspection shows all in order under the dash, take the cover off the brake and inspect for weak return springs on the actuators. If they are blackened from heat they probably have lost their tension and could allow that to happen, at least you will have a chance to blow out the dust (cover your nose and mouth) and stay back. Check the swing arm to make sure the pivot pin is not rusted fast in the casting on top of the brake housing so the swing arm stays in the brake engaged position. Check these items and repost with your findings and we'll go from there. mEl
