im looking at buying a 1070 with powershift. i know nothing about these tractors. motor seems good ,no blowby or water in wrong places-the question is, when i try to put in the main shifting gears 1 thru 4 with the motor running it grinds some in 1 and 2-and i could not get it to go in 3 and 4 ( i didnt try and force it) and also when i hit the left brake it has a lot of travel-the right brake has petal but kinda hard and grabs-now can all this be related to low hydrolic oil and or air in lines in the system? or should i stay clear of this purchase? bein a jd man i shore would like to join the case ranks!
thanks in advance

The grinding problem could be anything from the clutch pedal stop needing adjustment to the C2 clutch plates being warped. If the pedal is not going down far enough to pull the clutch spool to the released position C4 will not activate which serves to stop the planetary drum to act as a trans brake, although not as a positive one, it will not overcome warped discs in the C2 clutch (master clutch) Can you get it into gear by pushing the clutch down and letting it back up quickly and trying to shift the 4 speed while doing that? A gage set installed in the valve ports is what is needed to diagnose. I would not buy without the answers to the questions as a PS job is expensive. Also there are sounds that we experienced PS guys listen for on clutch depression that let us know what is going on inside the system. Hearing the system would tell us more than words on a screen, hope this makes it somewhat clearer

mEl ,we cant have a Jd person become frustated. So i will add it is best to idle when shifting an as mEl said when engine makes laboring sound as you push in clutch -that is time to shift quickly. Have to be quick an firm.

All but one of our Cases can be put into gear anytime after the inching pedal has been depressed and after the surge. Don't have to do it while the surge happens. Can hold the pedal on the floor for 5 mins and then put into gear. One that doesn't apparently has really warped C2 clutches as it grinds excessively! Sometimes you can't get into a set of gears and have to either release the pedal and reapply or move a bit and try again... not meshing correctly I suppose.
