On my magneto all I can find is MJC-C on the top of it. I am guessing that is a bosch magneto. My problem is that the spring broke that the points are on, and I need a new one. But I see all different kinds of mags listed for a case L, just wanted to know for sure that mine is a bosch and where can I get parts for this mag. And if you get new points does that include the spring. Thanks

The correct magneto for a '29 to '34 Model L would be a Robert Bosch FU4. 1935 to '38 used the American Bosch MJ series mags. If your L is indeed a '29 them your magneto has been changed somehwere in the past. It is my understanding the relatively low tensioned RB FU4s become very problematic with age and most were replaced with more modern designed mags. I haven't ever personally seen any early Cases with RB FU4 mags that were actually running machines. I have the correct RB FU 4 for my 29 L and plan on refurbishing it to use but haven't yet. I'm currently running the Case eagle (Slick) mag on mine.

This is great, I can't find info very easily anywhere else. Could you confirm the year for me? The serial number is L 317278 Also I am currently looking on ebay for a manual, just wondering if the I&T manual is any good? It covers more than just the L that is why I was wondering if gave enough info on the L. Thanks

That is definitely a 1929 serial number. Is the serial tag on the R/H side of the front bolster?

I see the manuals, both reprints and originals, on e Bay pretty regularly. The manuals have the "after serial number" that they cover printed on the front. Theres also a print date on them. All that will help you get the manual thats correct for your year model. I think my L manual has to be a first edition as it has a print date of Apr 1929 and no serial number.

There wasn't a lot of changes in the Ls from 29 to 38. The biggest changes during the Ls run were govenor function, serial tag location 1930, Rubber available 1934 and carb and magneto changes in 1935. Along with those, electric starting and lights became available somewhere late in the run.

When sitting on the tractor, the serial number is on the right side. What difference does it make left or right? And can somebody explain how the manifold works? It looks to me like it mixes cold and hot air. My manifold has two plugs right above the carburetor. What do these do? The one on the left side is bigger than the one on the right side.

The tractor is definitely a 1929 model; to determine the year of a 6 digit number, take the first and fourth digits and subtract 3 (32-3=29).

Hmm, so if indeed it was changed you would probably say this was an upgrade? Here's the deal the tractor has been in the family for 15 years or so but has not run for the last 13 years. Now I finally had some time to get it running and it ran for 3 hours and I could not wipe the smile off of my face, then it just quit. So upon further examination it was the spring for the points that broke. So I am trying to get parts to get it running again. So I looked to figure out what kind of mag it was and got confused. So that's why I am on here. So they are interchangeable? What would be best for mine? Oringinal would be nice, but to repair this one would be cheaper. Then someday I could track down the right one. Thanks for the help L.C. Gray

Those letters you posted are for a Bosch mag. You can get parts from Standard Magneto at 1-800-MAGNETO. Hal
