Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to swap a mercedes 4Cyl diesel into a early 70's 1740? Thanks Walt

For those anything is possible. We just put a 660 combine engine in a 1737. Find out what the mecedes rpm is maxed out for. Anything over 1800 and I think the gearbox will go out. I've seen ford diesels in them and some other odd ball motor but don't remember off hand. Good luck.

thanks Ned, I just pulled the 188d. It has a hole in the side. I don't see any damage to the crank or cam. It looks as if the rod just came apart. I was told it was from a little to much ether. I bought it this way. Can the hole be welded and sleeve and rod replaced if there is no other damage? I'am on a very tight budget! thanks again Walt
