Sand lugs were a lug option available from Case. I'm attaching a link to a scan out of my 1935 operator's manual showing the difference and giving a little description.
I have never seen a tractor with them, but it looks like the ones in the picture might be original Case. They look very similar

Mike

The lugs are probably Australian made. There were a lot of small foundries that made farm equipment, sadly now all closed.

The tractor has worked in heavy basalt clay soils for all its life. It was owned by a neighbouring family until I bought it at their farm clearing sale. It is still in good running condition.

I am facing the usual dilemma, should I leave it in original (rusted) condition or should I paint it????

Good to see you back on the board Mike!

I don't have any idea as to what the size would be- but I can show you a pic of an L with cut-off front steel (courtesy of L.C. Gray)p>third party image

And an Australian L on full steel:

Above is photo of me on my L.

The build card shows that it was equipped with rubber tyres when it left the factory, but it was several months before it was shipped to Gammell Tractor Company in Sydney in 1939. Maybe the rubber was removed before shipment.

I bought it from the original owners (neighbouring farmers). They told me it was on steels from new. Rubber tyres were very rare on Australian tractors until about 1947-8

Hi Bob-

I would have given credit- but I'm ashamed to admit that I'd forgotten your name. It's been a couple of years since we talked!

I had your picture saved in my gallery because you had the different lugs on the rear wheels. (sand lugs?)
