My 1816C left side drive motor pump belt slips causing loss of power on left side. I have installed and tightened belts to no avail. Is the pulley to polished? Is there a way to fix this without replacing the pulleys?

Thanks.

Hope I can tickle this subject... I have the exact same on my 1816... The C has the lever that engages it (not electric) as mentioned. But my left side has very little power either forward or backward.

Case 1816C - Total Loss of Power When Engaging Dr in reply to JLH, 01-23-2005 18:54:17
Can anyone give me a hint regarding this problem? Whenever engaging the drive lever, I experience almost a total loss of power, resulting in the Onan engine stalling out. I had both drive pumps rebuilt, which did not help. The motor seems to run fine when drives not engaged...can it be the points? Just before experiencing the loss of power when using the maching (to move snow), I heard a loud bang. Not sure if engine related. Could there be a restriction of the hydraulic fluid somewhere in the system? The gauge near the hydraulic filter shoots up to the red as well (even though I replaced the filter). HELP!!!
Thanks.

I had an old 1816 years ago and i had the Tecumseh engine with the electric clutch. Not sure if that is what you have but there were times where i would engage it and it would die. Sometimes if the clutch was worn it would do it or if it was very cold when starting it would take several times of engaging and disengaging for a few seconds until it was able to stay in gear and not die. It also took several minutes for the hydraulic steering pumps to warm up as well. I'd have the clutch looked at because it should drive both the hydraulics and steering.

I used to have belt slippage on my drive pump, caused by a leaking hydraulic pump (small pump controlled the lifting and tilting of the front bucket).
