870 powershift trouble

I have an 870 powershift. All of my ranges work fine. Powershift one works fine. But if I want to shift to powershift 2, I shift the lever and all of the sudden I am in neutral. If I am going down a hill and am turning over 1700 rpm's and try it it will go scooting in neutral for a bit then it will catch in gear then I can shift to powershift 3 normally and everything works fine. The colder it is the worse the problem and harder it is to get it to catch. The warmer I can the oil the easier it seems to catch in gear. Anyone know what might be the problem here. I have heard a valve might be sticking. So i have it in the shop now and am planning on taking the powershift control box off and cleaning it out. I have also heard a clutch pack could be the problem. I don't know anything about them. I assume they would be very hard to repair. I have a service manual and am ready to go to work as long as i'm not getting in over my head. Thanks for any help, and have a happy thanksgiving.

I might be "nit picking" but 504,(1370) divided by 3, times 2=336(870) not 1270(451).Please don`t be offended, as I welcome any corrections to my posts.

The powershift clutch packs are easy to work on. but i worked on a 1070 one and it was ok you will have to make a bracket i think to pull the powershift out. but i would check the valve body first take preasure test and take it apart and check it.

I saw you worked on a 1070 tractor power shift problem. maybe you can help me with mine..
I can use my powershift up to third, but when i come back from third to second, no problem. but now I want to come back from second to first, if I do it manually the tractor wants to bog out and i have to wait approx. 20 to 40 sec. or even 100ft before it kicks down to first. if i put the cluch in when it's in second the rear end locks up. i put new filters on, fluids full, and drove about 80hrs and it still does the same. where sould a person start looking? what would you do?

your on the right path that should fix it. have them check preasure at test ports on control body for any low or variation between ports.excelent tractor engine is the same as 1270 w/2 cyl.gone.
