How much lead should I add to the gas?

None. Been using gas tractors from 40s and 50s for years with no lead added. No trouble with any of them.

Herb's most likely right about being able to use unleaded gas in older tractor engines without damage, but just to be on the safe side, I use a lead substitute additive. STP, CAM2 and NAPA all sell lead substitute additives. A bottle costs about $2.50 and treats 20 gallons. It might not be necessary in an engine you're running only occasionally, like an older farm tractor, but I figure the additive is pretty cheap "insurance." Cim.
