Before you put HyTran in take some HyTran and put a little water in it to show its reaction to condensation. You will never use HyTran again it is the worst Hyd. Oil on the market.

I'd go with the Hy_Tran. You're probably only goin to do it once so put the stuff in thats made for it. The parts man at my IH dealership swears he's got several guys that had the other generic oil in, and had trouble, but changed to Hy_tran and it cleared it up. I've got a 62' 730 and I put it in everything, and it works great. Besides that, that old sweetheart of a Case is worth it.(grin) Hard to argue with buckmaster, though. Twenty years is a long time.
Just my opinion. Irv

Max-

Owner's manual calls for ATF type A, that's not available any more but Dexron III or any of the Universal Tractor Fluids (Hy-Tran, Valvoline Tractor fluid, etc.) will work just fine. Takes 10 1/2 quarts, there is a cleanable hydraulic filter just below and to the right of the pto. Remove three capscrews and cover comes off exposing filter. Be careful with this, it's an edgewound paper filter and can be damaged if handled too rough, probably hard to find a replacement for. I'd suggest buying an owner's manual, really helps out with this stuff. Any other questions, just ask, I'm here to help out. Don't know a lot, but owned a 400 all my life so I ususally ain't too far in the weeds where they are concerned!! Good luck with your tractor and enjoy!!

Pat

Hytran Yes, Dextron 3 No. Dextron 3 is to light of a Vis. grade. There is a huge difference in a Hytran or Hygard and a dexron 3 fluid. ATF fliuds type A are still available from Dealers if you ask for them.
