I am looking at a VAC with out hydraulic 3point. How will or can I hook up a bush hog to it?? Is this a hard thing to do ??, and does it need an overrun clutch on the pto shaft ? Any help will be most appreciated.
Thanks, Eddie

Eddie, i to have a vac 1951 model, i have pulled a 5ft bush hog with it across these mountains in w.va, but an overrun is mandatory, and you need a slip clutch on the drive line of the hog,or you will be stripping gears like i did by hitting a stump.but i suggest a 4ft hog.

YOU NEED TO HAVE A PULL TYPE AND ALSO A OVER RUN CLUTCH ON YOUR PTO. THIS TRACTOR WILL HANDLE A SMALL BUT DON'T TRY TO DO A LOT OF ROUGH BUSHHOGGING. WORKS BETTER WITH A FINISH MOWER.

You will need a pull type brush cutter. Very few used ones around. You can get a hand ratcheting jack on them to lift & lower them.
You will also need an overrunning clutch. I had this set up on my VAC, went 300 feet, hit a gopher mound and broke the PTO gears. Fixed that, went another 300 feet, broke the PTO gears and took some teeth of second gear. Sold the cutter and fixed the VAC.
I do not suggest using a VAC to cut brush with, except for light jobs with no obstructions.

I have used a 5' brush cutter to cut weeds and grass with for 3 or 4 years without problem.
The VAC's I have seen have either a 3 point or a hyd. pump in the pully wheel for remote cylinder operation.
