Is your '39 a standard D or a DC-4? In 1939 they only made 143 DC-4s which may make it a bit more collectable. Right now I'm restoring my dad's 1939 DC-4 SN 4302568. You can get a copy of the build card for your particular rig by getting in touch with Rich Tworek at CASE and giving him your serial number. Build card will give you info on what options your tractor was built with and such.
Good Luck,
-Mark

Thanks Mark...and to the others who have replied...been a big help.

I think mine is a standard 'D' ie, she has a wide front wheel track...I think the 'DC' is narrow...is this correct?

Do you have an Email address or any contact details for Rich Tworek at CASE?

best regards,

The 39 engine is casted different than the newer years, but the capacities are the same till they came with the 4" piston in the 50's. What would you like to know? I have SN 4302009. If anyone knows of an earlier # please email me or post a message. Thanks DCase

I have a D with serial # D4301948. Tractor is in bad shape and needs restored. I also have another one which is a 39 and also a 40 and 41 used by the airforce. I have lots of case tractors for projects not enough time and $$$.

Is your early 39 a 3 speed? My 4302009 is a 3 speed. The "4" is casted in the trans. cover, but there are none of the gears, or third shift rail in there.

Thanks DKase...interesting. Wonder why the castings were changed? I would like to know bore and stroke size..I will calculate the capacity from there. If you have detailed engine specs it would be much appreciated. Mine has no starter motor...the casting where it should go is blanked off with what looks like a factory fitted end cover. There are no bolt-holes either. Were starter-motors optional?

Wonder how many 1939 D's were made?

I will make enquiries around the clubs in Australia re an earlier 'D' than yours.

The castings were changed to accommodate oil lines in the block. The bore is 3 7/8. Stroke is 5 1/2. They run at 1200 RPM. They came with gas, or all fuel manifold. If it had the all fuel manifold it had the two compartment fuel tank and the radiator shutter. The head was the 4570 head same as the CC with the spark plugs that stick straight out. They tell me the later 39's had pressure oil to the rocker arms, but mine does not. The starter was optional. The bolt that holds the starter in is a tapered setscrew from the side. If they had the starter they had a generator mounted between the governer and the mag. The starter on the 39's and the drive gear as well as the ring gear is NOT interchangable with the newer DC's. I also have a 40 D with the high platform on full steel. It has no electrical system, gas manifold, and no factory oil to the rocker arms. Good Luck with your toy DCase

Hmmm, I have a "D" serial # 430 4345 which puts it over the top for all of 1939 production. Mine has non adjustable axles front and rear with 10X36 rear rubber.

You are not over the top for DC production in 39. The DC numbers start at 750, and the RC numbers are all mixed in with the DC numbers. Nobody knows where 39 ends. We just know 40 starts with 44. If anyone can shed light on this please do.
