I started a Case 500 out at our farm two days ago. The tractor had not been started for 5 or 6 years, but it started easily. However, it was stuck. The right tire turned, but the left did not. I rocked it a little and then the right tired stopped turning.

Did I break something?

sounds to me like your brake has rusted up have someone work your pedals and see if the adjuster not gose back in when the lot off the brake if it dont take a hardwood 2x4 and hammer and drive it back in repete process 4 or 5 times if it dont loosen up pull the brake cover and start cleaning up rust

I let my L sit for about a year without running it. It was in the barn, but in our area, sometimes severe swings in the weather will cause everything to sweat. The engine started OK, but tractor was "stuck". Apparently the sweating had caused rust to form in a bearing. I got it moving by rocking the belt pulley back and forth by hand (engine off !!!), then cranked it up and gently bumped the clutch until it freed up. Since you had a wheel move, problem is probably in a different place, but sounds like similar condition. Be easy, bearings don't like being forced, but they will free up with a little motion. Some of the bearings are inside a flange that has a grease fitting, give them a couple of shots.

I have a Case 500, and it hadn't been started for a while. We were going to pull it to start it, and the back right tire wouldn't turn. Very similar to what you are saying. Well, I took a guess and loosened the brake pedal. I'm not sure exactly what I did, but look around the linkage arm that connects the pecal to the drum, and find a way to loosen it. If you need further assistance, I'll look tommorrow and see if I can help further. Marty

Is it the Flambeau 500 or the Desert Tan version?

If its a case-o-matic it might be low on hydraulic fluid. Does the engin stall or does it run free when you let the clutch out?

I am the author of the orignal post. Thanks for your reply.

I can hear a slight strain when I engage the cluth.

How do you check hydraulic fluid?

I did some checking and I don't think they put the Case-o-Matic transmissions in the 500 series. So the hydraulic fluid level would not be the problem

To check the hydraulic fluid on a 500 there should be a square headed plug just to the left of the gear shift. It will have a dip stick on it.
