I am looking at a fairly clean 1490 case with cab/air/heat, its 2 wheel drive, at the local CaseIH dealer. Its a nice looking tractor the interior is clean needs tires onthe back,i think those are the original tires because those are cracking around the edges, i think they where run low on air. To me it looks like the 3pt is a little under built for this size of tractor???? Also is the 3 speed(hi. med. lo.) manual or hyd, can you shift on the go or do you have to clutch it? It comes with a set of front weights also. The Dealer wants 9500 USD for it which doesnt sound to bad when compared to the 886 that i was looking at there. I am going to see if he will let me use it out onour farm tomorrow, i have a 9'2" diskmower, and a 504 Super I round baler(Vermeer). Will it have a problem pulling any of these? Thanks again. I need to know pretty soon.
John

This one has a 12 speed manual i guess, it has one shift lever over to the right of the drive, with 3 speed and reverse, then on the right side of dash is a 4 speed powershift. The tractor has one to many oil leaks for me, all the injectors leak fuel and theres a 10 gallon per minute oil leak up there by the resivor...i think ill pass

Which tranny does it have? There was a 4 speed powershift, and a 12 speed manual. How many shifters? Any short ones on the floor on the left side?

The tractor has 70 pto hp. So it should be able to handle the baler no problem, not sure about the disk mower though.

David Brown made good tractors!!

They were a decent tractor, good torque, good fuel efficiency. They were prone to leaking oil, but not bad enough to have to keep adding oil. The colour was what made it look so bad. The black on orange really showed up. Have known 1490's to make it past 10,000 hours. If you buy it and need technical help, keep my email address on file.
