The 3 pt lift on my 1976, 970 PS is extremely slow. I've changed the filter and there was some little blackish particles in the oil. The right brake locked up on me about 3 weeks ago, so I'm assuming that the particles are part of brake linings??? After changing the filter there was no difference in the hydraulic lift. Anyway, I've been told that there is a screen on the bottom of the hydraulic pump that could be clogged?? The pump appears to be pretty easy to take off, but I would like to have some other opinions or suggestions. Thanks,
mike

Charley:
Yes it will pick up a load. Without a load it takes approximately 5 sec. for 3 pt. to raise all the way up. With a load (big bale) it takes approximately 10-12 sec. to raise. I was told there was a screen in the bottom of the pump that might be plugged so I took the pump off. I never did find a screen, however I did find that the O ring on the big inlet tube (left side of pump) was damaged. There was also some of that blue gasket sealer stuff around this O ring which makes me wonder if there had been a problem there before. When I put the pump back on it sounds like it's sucking air. Hums all the time???? I don't know, maybe the pump is going out?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, including where I might get a pump at a reasonable priced. Thanks,

mike

The brake linings on a 970 are on the outside of the tractor, so you couldn't get particles in you oil from them. There is a screen near the bottom of the rear housing for the oil intake, that may be your problem, but we don't have any 3pt. 970s around here. Sorry I can't help more.
